Shidoshi Paul Johnstone is somewhat of an oddity in the martial arts scene. On one side, he has forged a career on the front line with the Australian Federal Police and in teaching defensive tactics methods, formed from his study of reality-based combat methods. " In 2005 I was personally awarded my teaching licemce by Hatsumi Sensei and congratulated for opening a Bujinkan Dojo in Beijing, People's Republic of China. Hatusmi Sensei said that I was the first ninjutsu instructor since Takamatsu Toshitsugu (Bujinkan 33rd Soke) to teach ninjutsu in mainland China.

Since 1994, Paul Masse, a native of Miami Florida, has been living in Japan and training consistently two to three times a week directly with Grand Master Masaaki Hatsumi Sensei of the Bujinkan Martial Arts. No other foreigner has trained this long and consistently with Grand Master Hatsumi Sensei. Although Paul has trained at the feet of the Grand Master for the last fifteen years; he remains curiously unknown; perhaps taking to heart the ninja concept of “Sugata wo Kesu” or “vanishing, disappearing, or erasing your form”.

I thank my teacher Hatsumi-Soke for his kind generosity to me over the past 25 years, and I congratulate my deshi for their dedication and sacrifice.
